Palm Beach County, Florida works vigorously to live up to its tag line “The Best of Everything.” Fitch Ratings described Palm Beach County, Florida as one of the nation's wealthiest counties, with per capita personal income levels nearly 50 percent higher than state and national averages. It is one of the fastest growing and geographically largest counties in the nation and will celebrate its centennial next summer. The County was named for its first settled community, Palm Beach, which takes its name from the palm trees and beaches in the area.
Palm Beach County is governed by seven elected Commissioners and an appointed County Administrator. There are 38 incorporated municipalities within Palm Beach County including Boca Raton, Boynton Beach, Jupiter, Palm Beach and West Palm Beach. Each municipality enacts and enforces policies and laws within its incorporated boundaries, with the exception of County wide ordinances specified in the Charter of Palm Beach County. There is a strong spirit of collaboration, inclusion and professionalism that flows through the County’s official documents and public communications vehicles.
Palm Beach County had over 1.2 million people in 2004 and is expected to add 700,000 more people by 2030, an increase of 56 percent. The County will account for over one-quarter of Southeast Florida’s growth between 2004 and 2030, although today it represents just one-fifth of the region’s population. As a growing county in one of the fastest growing states in the country, Palm Beach County is adding people at a faster pace than most comparison areas – all of which are increasing in size more quickly than the U.S. average. Almost 32% of the population is over 55 and 24% is under age 19.
